Nursery coming alive with wallpaper

The ceiling & ceiling rose have now had their two coats of paint and it looks beautiful. A fresh coat of paint really brings the rooms alive and makes the detail of the ceiling rose stand out.

The wallpaper has gone up today and looks sensational. The paper is a yellow background with small white polka dot, sourced from UK via  www.fabricsandpapers.com.

The yellow, white & grey colour scheme is soft yet neutral, perfect when we do not know the sex of bub on the way.

Electrician set to come in this week to fit pendant light. Next step is to install the soft grey carpet and the furniture can come in!

Always fun being the designer and client....

Ceiling Rose goes up in the nursery....

Weighing in at over 35kg, installing the ceiling rose was not an easy task! But she is in and looking fabulous thanks to my wonderful husband!

Hours were spent cleaning the ceiling rose with a toothbrush to ensure the years worth of dust and grime were removed from the small crevices of the intricate filigree pattern.

First step was to check for structural support in the ceiling to attach the rose to.

Second step was to insert the screws, ready for the overhead hoisting....

Third step was to use cornice cement to attach the backside of the rose to the existing plasterboard. We also took the opportunity to use this cornice cement to repair any damages to the old rose edges which had been knocked and banged up over the past 70+ years! A coat of paint over her now and she will look a million dollars.

Fourth step was to prop the rose up with timber studs overnight to allow the screws and cement to set and firmly hold the rose in place.

A quick check in the morning... and the rose has made it through the night!

Next step, electrician called in to hang the yellow pendant light from the centre of the rose. Hopefully it will look a little something like this....

Wallpaper is being installed this week, can't wait to see & show you the injection of colour in the room! I am hoping it looks as good as I imagine it....

Mirra - Mosaic Entry - Part #2

Mirra - Mosaic Entry 'Before and After' - Part #1

The renovations of Mirra Private Dining & Events took place in February 2012. The intent of the re-design to raise the bar in terms of sophistication & elegance in the venue and to pull back the colour palette and remove the bright colours adorning the walls & floors.

The 'old' Mirra already feels like a distant memory but here is a chronological snapshot of the works to the main entry area - this area had to create a wow from the moment you walk through the doors.

Something old, something new...

Just wanted to share this beautiful ceiling rose that I found at Woolloongabba Antique Centre for our baby nursery.

The idea is to hang this in the centre of the room and suspend a beautiful, simple pendant light from it.

These old ceiling roses create an instant drama and when paired with the right light, creates an instant & beautiful connection of old and new.

Also, don't you just love the pink bunny light... a gift from my mother that was a feature in my own baby nursery many moons ago. Can't wait to continue the tradition and use it in our room...

Servaco's reception upgrade - Gold Coast

My dear clients & friends Shane & Rob are busy again - this time, they have asked me to look at the reception area of Servaco's Gold Coast base at Bundall.

The redesign of the reception area brief is to create a warm, friendly space to greet Servaco & associated clients and provide an area that is classic & luxe whilst guests are waiting to enter either the back office or the boardroom.

At present, the reception area is quite sparse and lacking in purpose & functionality but with a little TLC, we'll have it looking fab in no time!

The key feature will be the introduction of timber to the space to help create the warmth and provide a backdrop for some Scandinavian inspired loose furniture.

Designs have been presented & accepted with the builder currently pricing the job. I look forward to posting photos as construction commences!
